What 02:50
Your ex-girlfriend is so beautiful, you said she was a loser, I should have known you’d be a tool. She’s breezy and cool, her daughter is too. You shake with your voice so shrill, you’re such a bitter pill! What? What? What? You play your guitar like you think your kingdom’s come, you strut your stuff, you’re really tough until you get back home oh and then it’s time to moan, you could've saved me some, but you’re such a #$%&8 bum! What? What? What? You’re so hungry, it means nothing to me. Eat a slice of pizza; shut up and let me sleep. You’re such a creep, and your thoughts are not too deep. What? What? What? You played with fire, when you grabbed me by the wrists. You raised my ire, you turned my fingers into fists! When you threw those crazy fits (dude go operate on your tits; you gotta reduce that shit), man you’re such a ridiculous twit! What? What? What?

Matchless 02:06
In the end it was mutual. I was sinking myself and you needed no schooling in foot-shooting; you helped yourself fine to that (through mine, beat yours flat); moving two shy breaths; two breaths shy! Tell me why I still feel my heart shrinking, when I think how I kept kicking my own shoe. i miss you! i don't miss you too.

You were quiet; should’ve been talking I guess. You were holding your peace, holding your piece to her head. A little dishonest, but you didn’t see it; you didn’t mean it, I was just leaning in. Next time I’ll go fishing to win; I’ll fish for fish! You can blame it on a beautiful stranger; he was perfect when you met. Up came the inevitable dangers; you’re afraid to even bet. Rolling, right out of gas when you shouldn’t have been driving, shouldn’t have been leaning; let it take you where you get. Next time I’ll go fishing for that. And all the stars you brush, let it take you where you rush. You were tired; should’ve been sleeping I guess. I was holding your hand, holding your hand like my breath. Just a little uneasy, but now it’s such a mess, can you believe it? I was just leaving! Next time I’ll go fishing to win; I’ll fish for fish. Oh yeah.

Early Wine 02:59
Oh to write the words, to speak this thing; expectations gone astray, ever waiting for the day; for the hole in the sky to close up, for this love to die (or what do you call it, when it makes me cross my fingers all the time, and hope you’re not lying - or what do you call it, is it black and white?! - you said it pretty straight that night, through smoke and vine; tangled lines of early wine; green and strong, served with lime, bottled up before its time). And is it a crime, should I cry fire?! You said it pretty straight; look, hook, sink and devour her. We’ll see ya, we'll see ya, we'll see ya so dour, at just the 11th hour with your sorry sun-drenched flower; green and strong, served with lime, bottled up before its time.

Neil 02:06
Fighting drugs with pain, stretching words in vain, reading all you can into the things they say; why can’t you feel the same, it’s boring. Forget this game! How do you tell your soul; light after dark, make it rhyme for all who, like him, feel the spark? A new electrical pull will follow... forget this. Without the mist in off the lake, after the setting of the moon that masquerades, and gives off every shade but love; is it enough? Is it enough? (Hands off, he’s mine)! Set your sights on the wind; raise your arms, flying rings around.

In Between 02:23
We were thorns digging sides, coupling. It was crazy, hoping for the perfect indie love theme. I tried to be you, if anything. I closed my eyes, you lost your key, but I still see your beauty. You were down in the mouth, I was in the clouds, I’m from the south; is there no in-between? A long road it seemed. But your cheeky grin catches me and I’m tossed back in, looking through: hot and cold, fat and thin, young and old. We were thorns digging sides, coupling. It was crazy, hoping for the perfect indie love theme but there was something though our friends, taking sides, looking twice, shook their heads as we prepared for paradise. We were too alike, all alone, always on our way back home, a long road to go. But your cheeky grin catches me, I'm tossed back in, looking through: hot and cold, fat and thin, young and old. Me and him; hot and cold, fat and thin, young and old.

Nick of Time 03:09
Catching the train in the nick of time, making all connections, just one more hill to climb... you're running for your life. Without you, my head is two feet wide. Without you, where am I going to hide? Who do I show the snow to, who do I make a show to, keeping warm inside with you? For all the fortune I’ve uncovered, I've lifted stones. I keep these shelves all cluttered, not to feel alone. My mouth is wide with laughter, you don’t think I suffer after. Eyes bright with shining; you don’t see me crying, without you! Who do you show the snow to, who do you make a show to, keeping warm inside with you? You have a beautiful blue in your eye, I’m jealous at the way you try, looking out over the things you see. I want you right here but say "just let me be, without you".

Mostly he was betting on bad weather, in a grand gesture for sure. But what honest measure in her was it he was trying to cure? Years had flown; he kept her on the phone - slurred, visionary words, the wilder the storm. He let the handset fall, there was still credit on the call; he dropped asleep, she could hear the wind and sleet that’s all. Some campfire, oh that was some campfire. The summer was dryer than dust. It was an agonizing night, whimsy lining every flight of conversation in a vacuum; echo-y and thin. He was more than bones and skin, and she remembers, she remembers him. Focusing on his dreams caught by her pillow, once-upon-a-while the world stratified and mellow.... star (you are)... some campfire! That was some campfire. The summer was dryer than dust.

Marguerite 01:55
Sleepless nights dreaming; hanging out washing, standing around talking Walden Pond. With your rubber boots and that big farmer’s cap on, you'll stay in the back til the sun’s all gone. Flowers... You read by the light, windows open; listening at night to the garden. It’s the 25 of December, laughter up to the rafters; who do you love better, me or my brother? Ooooh... Flowers. Lily of the Valley, Marguerite daisy.

Harangue 03:08
Why don’t you try to speak without sounding like any number of men? We’re all so different, go and start up all over again. And after all of your tears, tomorrow when you’ve lit out of here it’ll be the same ol’ dirty road, it’s true (it's not that I want to bust you up, my dear). I know my part by heart, all you just have to ask; don’t worry I don’t move too fast! You confuse and astound me, but now that you’ve found me, why don’t you try to move without looking like any number of guitar player or doctor, mechanic, other labourer, state treasurer, keeping hold of every inch of your composure? Keeping your head, keeping your heart, guarding hard all your super soft secret parts. Saying you gotta say so long, thinking you’re really only ever gonna make it on your own. I know my part by heart, all you just have to ask; don’t worry I don’t move too fast!

Uh Oh 03:13
Gestures dress and unpaint the day. Do you go out of your way, with daring colours, baring rules? They haven’t got a clue.. you think you do? Uh-oh. It’s so easy in the city to spend your time, do you go out of your mind? Shaping pictures, giving away blind cards? They haven’t got the heart (don’t take it too hard). Uh-oh. Sharp tongues shoot bitter darts, and it hurts, so tie your belt and stop and start and stop and start and... your brain burns: they haven’t got the nerve. It’s so easy in the city to spend your pay, do you go out of your way? Do you even know how to say, for sure? Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
12.
Hungry 03:36
Hungry… you’re so hungry. It’s nothing to me. To me, you say you’re trying, you’re building a wall. It’s nothing at all, to me. Wake up, take a long shower. I can use the computer a little bit longer. And I’ll hang your towel (it’s all wet). You’re learning a riff... so what song is it, then? Oh, ok I’ll just sit. Real quiet. OR AM I ALLOWED to choose not to buy it?! Do I have to pretend you’re a genius? Do I have to go through this all over again? OR AM I ALLOWED to not to listen? Am I allowed to choose not to look?!

Spotlight 02:25
Brain and heart torn apart; there was a question but we left it unsaid. You left me for dead, pushed around a love song; there was a cushion, then a hammer instead. Thanks, it’s straight; I'm just really busy here, sleeping late. How lost you are, off the radar. You left me for dead, I was talking at length (we were nervous, it was precious, it tanked). You never said, you pushed around a love song; there was a cushion, then a hammer instead. Thanks, you win, I’m just really busy here, sleeping in. How lost you are, off the radar, out of the spot.

Shirley 05:54
Picture her; your lines trace her, as the sky is clear; surely, surely as the year goes. You came through the seaside, it's a free ride down your open mouth, and it all headed south at your sound. They gathered in crowds around. You charm the charmers, and the old-timers, and the bartenders, with pictures and stories of the water and stars... that star, Shirley, surely you are. Save a dance! Save a dance for me; I can read you at a glance. You came through the seaside, it's a free ride down your open mouth; you spun them a few rounds. Sirens and hounds. Save a dance! Save a dance for me, I can read you at a glance.
